During graduate school I lived on a ranch near the San Andreas fault and became more aware that nothing lasts; though we may remain stuck in one scale of time or size. Just when a process seems to be finished, a new one happens; as the laying down of sedimentary rock is supervened by the folding and upheaval of the earth; and that sudden process is modified by slow erosion.
